Dean C. Barrett, 91, a lifelong Eel River Township farmer and a resident of rural Fort Wayne, passed away at 12:34 a.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at Parkview Randallia Hospital in Fort Wayne as a result of a stroke.
Mr. Barrett was born in Decatur, Illinois on February 4, 1926, a son of Ferre Charles and Sylvia Marie (Myers) Barrett, and moved to Allen County with his parents at age three.
On March 10, 1951 he was married in Greenfield to Lois M. Caley, and lived all of his adult life in Eel River Township.
Engaged in farming there all of his life, he had been employed at Dana Corporation for seven years and also owned and operated a milk route for Pet Milk Company for 13 years. Along with his wife, he was the co-owner and operator of the Shiloh Reception Hall for 22 years, retiring in 1992.
He attended the Huntertown United Methodist Church and was a 4-H leader for many years.
The surviving relatives include his wife Lois, to whom he was married for over 65 years; two daughters Stephany (Daniel) Bourne of Fort Wayne and Sandy (Ron) Graves Shoultz of Charlotte, North Carolina; a son Rex (Lisa) Barrett of Fort Wayne; a sister Arlene Evans of Greenwood; five grandchildren Daniel (Heather) Bourne, Andrew Bourne, Kali Barrett, Whitney (Roger) Stahlhut, and Cody Barrett; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers Carroll Barrett, and F. Dale Barrett.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Huntertown United Methodist Church, 16021 Lima Rd., with Pastor Gabrielle Ginder, officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church on Monday, March 6, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., or one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery, Allen County.
