David Jay Stangland, 60, of Albion, passed away on December 11, 2021, at his home.
He was born in Columbia City, on September 12, 1961, to the late Rex and Evelyn (Gaff) Stangland. He spent his formative years in Noble County, graduating from Central Noble High School.
David helped with the family farm. He was a talented, self-taught machinist and worked for ProSystems for 12 years. He had previously worked at QSI, Central Soya and Chore-Time.
David was a lifelong member of Merriam Christian Chapel Church and served in many different roles.
His talent as a machinist enhanced the rest of the many skills he possessed. Whether it was working with metal, wood, or just about any other material, it was always made with a perfected skill that is hard to come by. He had a love for aviation that might have begun from seeing both his dad (Rex) and uncle (Don) fly. He even hand-built his own airplane from scratch and with such attention to detail that you would have thought it was factory made. He loved to fly and take people on airplane rides, all you had to do was ask him. If you had enough time, there were two things that he could talk endlessly about: one was all things that had to do with aircraft, the second was anything you wanted to know about models of guns and their history. He also loved to hunt and came from a family with a long history of hunting. It is one of the many family traditions that will carry on for generations to come. He laughed and was filled with joy the most when surrounded by his family and will be greatly missed by many.
David is survived by his two sons, Ethan Stangland and Everett Stangland; his two daughters, Allison Stangland and Annetta Stangland; his former wife, Louise Stangland; his siblings, Debbie (Jerel) Shively, Dawn (Mike) Taylor and Daniel (Emily) Stangland; his two grandchildren, Sophia and Jack.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
