Barbara L. Pearson, 86, a resident of rural Churubusco and widow of Melvin B. Pearson, passed away unexpectedly at 8 a. m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at the Kingston Care Center in Fort Wayne. She had been a patient there for one and one half years. Mrs. Pearson was born in Smith Township on May 12, 1928, a daughter of Murray and Lois (Geiger) Harrold. She graduated from Churubusco High School in 1947 and was a lifelong resident of Churubusco. On September 14, 1957 she was married in Churubusco to Melvin B. Pearson. She was first employed at the Fort Wayne National Bank, and retired from the bookkeeping department of the Churubusco State Bank in 1985 after 22 years. She was a member of Churubusco Order of the Eastern Star 136. Mr. Pearson preceded her in death on October 17, 1994. The surviving relatives include her daughter Sheila (Leonard) Harvey of Churubusco; her sister Phyllis Anderson of Churubusco; a grandson Matt (Whitney) Harvey of Danville; and a great-granddaughter Adalyn Harvey. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother Murray Eugene Harrold; and by a granddaughter Megan Harvey. Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. on Saturday, October 18, 2014, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Rev. Corinne Boruff-Stucker, pastor of Churubusco United Methodist Church, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 2 to 8 p. m., or one hour prior to the service Saturday morning. Interment will be in the Eel River Cemetery, south of Churubusco.
