Basil Shaffer

Basil Leroy Shaffer, 81, a resident of Churubusco, passed away on March 17, 2017 at Miller' Merry Manor in Columbia City. Born in Marion on August 27, 1935, a son of John and Nellie (Southerly) Shaffer. He spent his formative years in Huntington County and graduated from Lancaster High School in 1953. He was married on July 3, 1954 to Linda Weller in Huntington. Basil retired from GTE on December 3, 1988 after 33 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, archery, model airplanes and computers. Basil is survived by his wife of 63 years, Linda (Weller) Shaffer; his son Michael (Kris) Shaffer; four daughters, Michelle (Julian) Morris, Julie McHenry, Leslie Mullen, and Rebecca (Gerald) Thompson; a sister, Linda Owen. He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Roland Shaffer, Eugene Shaffer, and Buford Shaffer; a sister Dorothy McWhall. Visiting hours will take place at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home on Monday, March 20, 2017 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM. Services will begin at 4:00 PM, at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home on Monday, March 20, 2017. Burial in the Lancaster Cemetery, Huntington County. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Parkview Home and Hospice in Basil's name.
