Betty G. Egolf, 81, of Churubusco, passed away at Kingston Care Center on January 17, 2025.
She was born in LaOtto on September 9, 1943, to the late Ralph and Effie (Barnett) Gillum. She spent her formative years in Arcola and Churubusco and graduated from Churubusco High School in 1961.
Betty was a pillar of her community and a beloved family member. She married Robert "Bob" Egolf on August 11, 1961, and together they ran the Egolf IGA in Churubusco. She also worked at DeBrand Fine Chocolates and pursued her passion for interior design with her friend Elain Jones, a passion she shared with her students at IPFW.
Betty was a woman of many interests. She loved art and enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, swimming, traveling, cake decorating, and anything French. She was an avid collector of Gene Stratton-Porter novels, which led Betty to work at the Gene Stratton-Porter Historical Site in Rome City.
Above all, what mattered most to Betty was her family. She is survived by her two sons, Thomas Egolf and Blain Egolf; two daughters, Emily (Daniel) Stangland and Elise (Curt) Roth; her sisters, Cathy (Gary) Lambert and Sandra (Terry) Long; and her sisters-in-law, Carol Ann Gillum, Mary (Charles) Cummings, and Norma Crabill; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren with one on the way.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Robert "Bob" Egolf; her parents, Ralph and Effie Gillum; her sister, Louise Rose; her brother, Ronnie Gillum; and her daughter-in-law, Kathleen Egolf; her brother-in-law, Dale Crabill.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel, with calling one hour prior to the service.
The family will also receive family and friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery, Churubusco.
Memorials may be directed to Riley Children's Hospital or the Churubusco History Center.
