Betty Hill, 101, of Churubusco, died peacefully on May 2, 2025, at Miller's at Oak Point.
She was born in Green Township, Noble County, on March 8, 1924, to the late James "Jim" and Lura (Diffendarfer) Claxton. She spent her formative years in Churubusco and attended Churubusco High School.
During her 101 years, Betty was a pillar of strength, love, and dedication for her family. She was a devoted wife to the late J.L. "Jack" Hill, whom she married on November 23, 1942. As a farmer's wife, she was his right hand and helped manage the family farm. Jack preceded her in death on October 26, 2014.
An exceptional mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, her unwavering commitment to her family was evident in her role as a homemaker, where she created a warm and loving environment for her loved ones. She was also a member of Sugar Grove Church of God since 1947. She was very active in the church, especially the Mission Circle, and was known for making homemade noodles and ice cream for the various church benefits.
Betty is survived by her children, Judy Womack, Harold (Pam) Hill, Doris (Jay) Pence, and David (Nellie) Page; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Hill; a sister, Annie Shearer; a brother, Ray (Sue) Claxton; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 21 great-great- grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a son, Jonathan Hill; a grandson, Jeffery Hill; sons-in-law, Jay Pence and Tom Womack; her brothers, Don, Paul, and Bill Claxton; a sister, Mary Lou Grawcock; brothers-in-law, Bob Shearer and Robert Grawcock.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 9, 2025, at the Sugar Grove Church of God, Churubusco, with a calling one hour before the service.
The family will also receive family and friends at the church on Thursday, May 8, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Burial will take place at Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.
