Betty Elaine Norton, 91, passed away at 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 27, 2015, at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville, Ohio. She had been a resident there for the past five years. Mrs. Norton was born on July 6, 1924 in Albion, Michigan, where she spent the early years of her childhood. She later moved to Toledo, where she graduated from high school. On December 1, 1943 she was married in Toledo to Albert Ward Norton.. She lived much of her adult life in the Toledo-area, and had also lived in the Fort Wayne area from 1973 to 2002. Her church denominational affiliation was with The Wesleyan Church, and at one time had been active at the Bonner Senior Center in Portage, Indiana. Employed as a bookkeeper, she had worked for Ford Dealerships in Swanton and Maumee, Ohio, and also for the former Hefner Chevrolet in Fort Wayne. In her leisure time she enjoyed sewing and crocheting projects, and studying her Bible. Mr. Norton preceded her in death on April 30, 1989. The surviving relatives include her three children Kathleen (Doug) Selfe of Grand Rapids, Mich., Kenneth E. (Sharon) Norton of Greenville, Oh., and Karen (Ray) Souders of Hanover, Penn; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her father Lee Finley; her mother Florence (Miller) Hartoon; a sister Eva Eaken; and a brother Orville Finley. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 30, 2015 at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco. The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 12 noon on Friday until the hour of the service. Interment will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.
