Brooks O. Heffley, 54, a resident of Churubusco, passed away on Thursday afternoon, August 20, 2015, at his home. He had been in failing health for three years, but had been more seriously ill for the past year. Mr. Heffley was born in Fort Wayne on September 1, 1960, a son of Harold D. and Helen J. (Timmerman) Heffley, and was a lifelong resident of Whitley County. He had lived at his present home in Churubusco since 2007. He was a self-employed carpenter for most of his adult life, and was a member of the Gilbert Davis American Legion Post 157 in Churubusco. On December 7, 2001 he was married in Wolf Lake to Chari (Skinner) Wireman. She survives. The other surviving relatives include his four step-children Amber (T. J.) Hargett of Gastonia, NC, Adam (Jacquie) Wireman and Ashlee (Sam) Seabold, both of Fort Wayne, and Alan (Amanda Myers) Wireman of Churubusco; two brothers Leon (Toni) Heffley of Columbia City and Robert Heffley of South Whitley; two step brothers Jeff Maloney of Huntington and Scott (Cindy) Maloney of Lebanon; and three grandchildren Ben Wireman, Elizabeth Wireman, and Logan Hargett. His parents preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2015, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Rev. Aaron Peer, pastor of Charter Oak Community Church, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 8 p. m., or one hour prior to the service Tuesday afternoon. Interment will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.
