Carol Mettert

Carol Mettert, 86, of Churubusco, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2022, at Lutheran Life Villages, Kendallville. She was born on September 19, 1935, in Fort Wayne, to the late Elmer and Dorothy (Mosshamer) Lamley. She spent her formative years in Fort Wayne and attended Central Catholic High School. On June 12, 1954, she was married in Fort Wayne to Raymond Mettert, and spent the early years of her marriage there until moving to rural Roanoke in 1963. The couple later lived at Big Lake for several years until moving to Churubusco. He preceded her in death on March 12, 2008. She was a member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church, Churubusco. She was also active with the Red Hat Society. She especially enjoyed her family. The surviving relatives include a son, Steven R. (Karla) Mettert; a daughter, Sandra (Bradley) Scare; two brothers, Don (Gwen) Lamley and John Lamley; two sisters, Betty Ramsey and Joyce Buffenbarger; four grandchildren, Christopher (Kim) Mettert, Alan (Elizabeth) Mettert, Brandy (Bill) Cain, and Hillary Scare; and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Alice Ramsey. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m., at St. John Bosco Catholic Church, on Saturday, August 6, 2022, with calling one hour prior at the Funeral Home. The family will also receive family and friends at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel, Friday, August 5, 2022, from 5-7 p.m. with the Holy Rosary at 4:30 p.m. Burial will take place in the Thorn Cemetery, Ormas. Memorials may be directed to St. John Bosco Catholic Church for Masses or the Red Hat Society. Sheets & Childs Funeral Home has been entrusted with these arrangements.
