Carrie Lee (Craft) Pippenger, 91, of Fort Wayne and formerly of rural Avilla, passed away on August 16, 2013, at 12:53 a. m. She was born on February 9, 1922 in Breathitt, Kentucky, to Elliot and Lona (Fletcher) Craft. She married Everett R. Pippenger on September 8, 1938. They lived many years in the Green Center area and Avilla. She was preceded in death by Everett (1972), son Chester A. Pippenger (2010) and daughter Merry Ellen (Pippenger) Funk (2013). Carrie enjoyed her flowers and gardening, finding joy in harvesting and canning vegetables from the garden and making jams and jellies, just as much as her mother did before her. She also enjoyed painting, drawing, quilting and writing, and spending time with family and friends Surviving is son, Mark E. Pippenger, daughter-in-law Lois (Truelove) Pippenger, son-in-law James Funk, 4 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 p. m. on Monday, August 19, 2013, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Pastor Joseph Brickney, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 11 a. m. on Monday until the hour of the service. Interment will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.
