Carroll Hand

Carroll Lee Hand, 87, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was born in Fort Wayne, on August 18, 1935, to the late William J. and E. Marie (Warstler) Hand. He spent his formative years in Huntington County and graduated from Rock Creek High School in 1953. Carroll was married to Shirley J. Scott in Mt. Etna, on February 15, 1958. The couple moved to the property where he was born in 1991. His first job was setting pins at the bowling alley in Huntington. He later worked at Harvester and then at Dana. Carroll retired from Dana after 41 and a half years in 1996. In his retirement, he helped his brother Billy with mowing and digging graves at the Huntertown Cemetery. He had farmed through the years with his family. He had also helped his brother-in-law, Kenneth Scott, farm until he was 80. He was a member of the Lifehouse Church in Huntertown. Carroll enjoyed playing dominos with his family. He loved traveling when his kids were young, and they liked taking camping trips. He also enjoyed pulling his antique tractor at tractor pulls. When on vacations, he was in search of a good hot dog. He would tell his family to search too when they went on vacation. Carroll is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley Hand; four children, Bryan (Becky Blanton) Hand, Darwin (Kelly) Hand, Susan (Patrick) Hand-Walmsley, and Gregory Hand; a brother, Larry (Joyce) Hand; four sisters, DeMarise (Lynn) Martin, Barbara (Raymond) Deetz-Kissner, Shirley (Dave Fike) Hand-Gronski, and Marsha Myers; six grandchildren, Samantha (Brandon), Makaelah, Haley (Conner), Zachary, Kassi, and Luke; six great-grandchildren, Zirah, Cody Jr., Max, Nash, Evelyn, and Malcolm. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy and Jesse Hand. Also three brothers-in-law, Larry Deetz, Dick Myers, and Kenneth Scott; one sister-in-law, Jacque Hand. Funeral Services will be held at Lifehouse Huntertown Campus, on Monday, January 30, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., with calling one hour prior to the service. The family will also receive family and friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel, on Sunday, January 29, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Burial will take place at the Huntertown Cemetery, Cedar Canyon Road. Memorials may be directed to the Lifehouse Church. Sheets & Childs Funeral Home has been entrusted with these arrangements.
