Catherine C. Avery, 88, a resident of Churubusco and widow of William J. Avery, Jr., passed away at 7:35 p. m. on Friday, October 7, 2011, at the Provena Sacred Heart Home in Avilla.e She had been in declining health for some time. Mrs. Avery was born in Fort Wayne on April 21, 1923, a daughter of William H. F. and Margaret C. (Voetter) Beerman.e She spent her early years in Fort Wayne, graduated from Elmhurst High School in 1941, and during World War IIe worked in civil service. On February 25, 1943 she was married in Fort Wayne to William J. Avery, Jr.e The couple moved to Churubusco in 1958, and she worked as a secretary in Fort Wayne for several companies over the years.e Employed as a bookkeeper for the Fort Wayne State Developmental Center, she retired from there in 1988 after 15 years. Mrs. Avery was a member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church in Churubusco. Mr. Avery preceded her in death unexpectedly on April 20, 1968. The surviving relatives include her daughter Becki (Chuck) Mathieu of Churubusco; a son Kevin J. Avery of Churubusco; and a daughter-in-law Aldina "Dee" Avery of Fort Wayne.e There are eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son Mark S. Avery on August 11, 1996; by three sisters Wilma Haag, Margaret Mennewisch, and Eleanor Cates; and by a grandson Shane T. Avery. Graveside services will be held at 1 p. m. on Thursday, October 13, 2011, at Ege Catholic Cemetery in Noble County with Father Danney Pinto, pastor of St. John Bosco Catholic Church, officiating.e Interment will follow.
