Charles Gilbert

Charles E. "Charlie" Gilbert, 58, a former resident of Churubusco and more recently of Warsaw, was found dead at 1:02 p. m. on Friday, October 22, 2010 at his home.e Although he had suffered some health problems, his death was unexpected. Mr. Gilbert was born in Columbia City on December 2, 1951, a son of Edward E. and Freda E. (Wise) Gilbert.e He spent his formative years in Churubusco, and graduated from Churubusco High School.e He had previously been employed at Egolf"s IGA in Churubusco and later worked as a self-employed logger in Montana. His real passion in life was Blue Grass music, and he was an expert at the banjo, guitar, and fiddle.e He had played in many bands over the years, and had also recorded for National Public Radio. The surviving relatives include his siblings Fred C. (Coreen) Gilbert of Fort Wayne, Thomas E. (Sue) Gilbert of Churubusco, Eleen Jefferies of LaOtto, Edward J. Gilbert of Fort Wayne, and Sarah A. Gilbert of Churubusco; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father on April 5, 2005, and by his mother on January 11, 2007. Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. on Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Steve Ardhuerumly, officiating. The family will receive friends at the mortuary on Tuesday from 2-5 and from 6-8 p. m.e There will be a Blue Grass Jam Fest from 7 to 8 p. m. Tuesday at the mortuary. Interment will be in the Eel River Cemetery, south of Churubusco. The family requests that memorials be directed to the Otis R. Bowen Center for Human Services, 850 N. Harrison Street, Warsaw, INe 46580. ****************************************
