Charles Smith

Charles A. Smith, 89, of Anderson, passed away on September 3, 2018, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. Born in Johnson City, NY, on July 31, 1929, to Charles and Minnie (Quick) Smith. He spent his formative years in Anderson. Charles married Doris Jean DeWitt. After his marriage with Doris, he was married to Marie Miller in 1989. She preceded him in death in 2008. He worked in the maintenance department at General Motors in Anderson. He enjoyed bowling. Charles attended Charter Oak Community Church in Churubusco. He was a long standing member of the Eagles. Charles is survived by five children, Michael (Brenda) Smith of Saginaw, MI, Carolyn (Jerry) Gaerte of Albion, Evelyn Stone of Jackson, MI, Elaine Smith of Auburndale, FL and Bonnie Smith of Battlecreek, MI; two sisters, Cheryl (Bud) Place and Betty Zabadal; three brothers, Dick (Nora) Chalker, Ronald (Roxy) Chalker and Jack Chalker; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandhildren. He is preceded in death by his parent and his wife, Marie; also a daughter, Penny Pawlaski. Memorial Services will take place at Charter Oak Community Church on Saturday, September 22, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. Officiating, Rev. Aaron Peer.
