Corey A. McDaniel, 28, a resident of rural Churubusco, passed away at 8:17 p. m. on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne surrounded by his family. He had been a patient there since Monday. Corey was born in Fort Wayne on October 24, 1985, the son on Donald R. and Marlene (Wetzel) McDaniel. He moved from Fort Wayne to Churubusco as a child with his parents, and was a member of the Churubusco High School Class of 2004. Employed at Complete Controls in Fort Wayne over the past two years, he enjoyed spending time with his friends and his cats. He also enjoyed playing bass guitar and video games. He will long be remembered as an individual with a "big heart" for his friends and family. The surviving relatives include his parents Don and Marlene McDaniel of Churubusco; his sister Amanda (Greg) Brake of Columbia City; his paternal grandmother Mildred Walker of Auburn; his aunt Maureen (Terry) Clemons of Churubusco; an uncle Rick "Mac" McDaniel of Monroeville; twin nieces Maya and Liliana Brake; and two cousins. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. on Monday, February 10, 2014, in the Krauss Chapel at Trinity English Lutheran Church, 405 W. Wayne Street, Fort Wayne. Pastor Kathleen W. Haller will officiate. The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Saturday from 2 to 5:30 p. m., with a celebration of life immediately following at the funeral home. There will be no calling on Sunday. Interment will be in the Eel River Cemetery, south of Churubusco.
