Craig Steven Humphries, 72, of rural Churubusco, passed away on September 12, 2024, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.
He was born in Fort Wayne on December 9, 1951, to the late Harvey "Clair" and Mary Frances (Pletcher) Humphries. He grew up in Fort Wayne and graduated from South Side High School in 1970 and later from Purdue Fort Wayne.
Craig was a devoted husband to his wife, Deborah, whom he married on December 29, 1973, at St. Jude's Catholic Church. He retired from a fulfilling career as the Director of Engineering at Janco after 17 years. He had previously worked at GTE, Magnavox, Taylor Made, Zollner Piston, and Fiber Form. His love for knowledge and education extended into his retirement, where he tutored Math and Science students at Smith-Green Community Schools. In addition, Craig was a faithful member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church, where he was a 7th grade catechist for 23 years. His faith and family were what mattered most to him. Craig will be remembered for his spirited, fun-loving personality and exceptional storytelling. He had a love for explosive fireworks, fast cars, and history.
Craig is survived by his wife, Deborah Humphries; his children, Andrew Humphries, Jillian (Adam) Brososky, and Laura (Brad) Stout; and his sister, Susan Humphries; seven grandchildren, Peter, Olivia, Benjamin, Lucas, Jacob, Cecilia, and Dominic.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St John Bosco Catholic Church on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at 12:00pm, with calling one hour prior to the service at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel.
The family will also receive family and friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel, on Monday, September 16, 2024, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., with The Holy Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m.
The Mass will be followed by burial at Ege Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Women's Care Center or St. John Bosco for Masses or Ege Catholic Cemetery.
