Dallas P. Parish, 92, of Churubusco, passed away on September 29, 2023, at StoryPoint West.
He was born on November 16, 1930, to the late Dwight and Estella (McCoy) Parish. He spent his formative years in Churubusco and graduated from Churubusco High School. He received his bachelor's degree from Manchester University and later his master's degree from Southeastern Oklahoma.
Dallas was married to Gloria Love in Churubusco, on August 22, 1998.
Dallas was a dedicated math teacher and a devoted member of the community. He was well-loved and respected by his colleagues and students, and his influence extends far beyond the classroom. Dallas was a two-time recipient of the Whitley County Heart of Gold award, a testament to his unwavering commitment to his profession and community. Outside of work, Dallas was passionate about gardening, woodworking, roofing, cabinet building, and home building. His love for singing was evident in his participation in a Barbershop Quartet, he also sang in the church choir for over 40 years. Dallas's caring nature was seen through his actions as a host to seven exchange students and his activity in the Whitley County Habitat for Humanity. He was a track coach and even cleared a 13 ft pole vault in his 40s. He held the long jump record at Churubusco for a long time.
Dallas is survived by wife, Gloria Parish; his daughter, DeAnne Conn; sons, Darryl (Joyce) Parish and Drue (Hanna) Parish; three stepdaughters, Kathern Fike, Diana (Al) Bonacci, and Sabrina (Jim) Wormcastle; his stepson, Gary (Lisa) Love; a sister, Carmen Horn; seven grandchildren and 11 step-grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Warren Disler, Randall Disler, and Richard Parish; two sisters, Donnis Goneau and Dwila Bloom.
A funeral service will take place on Friday, October 6, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel, with calling one hour prior to the service.
The family will also receive family and friends at the Funeral Home on Thursday, October 5, 2023, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Burial will take place at Eberhard Cemetery in Columbia City.
