David Waterman

September 17, 1958 — January 16, 2024

David Alexander Waterman, 65, of Churubusco, rose to meet his Lord and Savior on January 16, 2024, at Lutheran Hospital. He was born in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire, England on September 17, 1958, a twin son born to the late Ivan Maurice and Gertrude Alice (Scraggs) Waterman. He spent his formative years in Bishop's Stortford, and graduated from Bishop's Stortford Boy's High School. He then became an apprentice with Fuller & Sons, achieving his City & Guilds. Although he used his skills and training as a plumbing and heating engineer throughout his professional life, he took a hiatus for several years to work as a scaffolder with SGB (Scaffolding Great Britain). David caught the eye of the love of his life, Lisa Krider, in Bishop's Stortford during Lisa's trip to England in the summer of 1985. In three short weeks, they had fallen in love and David proposed under the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Three months later, he immigrated to the United States and married Lisa on October 17, 1985, at Collins United Methodist Church, leading to a beautiful life together of some 38 years. David was a hardworking man who dedicated his life to his family and the Lord. After retiring in May 2019 from WaterFurnace International with a legacy of hard work, compassion and fairness, he relished being part of lake life and loving his friends and neighbors. Cutting firewood to give away to friends and family became a favorite pastime. He served as President of the Blue Lake Association since 2018. David and Lisa loved traveling the world together and visited 5 continents and over 30 countries. He was a beloved husband, father, grandad, brother, uncle and a friend to many. David always welcomed guests and friends with a hug and a smile and was well known for his wit. He cherished his relationship with the Lord and was a member of Collins United Methodist Church and became a founding member of Collins New Life Church. He also served as a Gideon, joining men across the world focused on the offering free Bibles to the unsaved. David is survived by his wife Lisa; their two children, Kirsten (Andy) Schuman and Alex (Morgan Eberly) Waterman; two grandchildren, Zara and Zayne Schuman, his older brother, Eric (Mandy) Waterman, and his twin brother, Paul (Beverly) Waterman. He also leaves behind numerous nephews, nieces, friends and family. Many will miss his smile and welcoming spirit. David was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Gertrude Waterman. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 22, 2024, at Collins New Life Church, 5524 East Darland Street, Columbia City, Indiana, 46725, with calling one hour prior to the service. The family will also receive family and friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel, on Sunday, January 21, 2024, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Collins New Life Church or Gideons International. Sheets & Childs Funeral Home has been entrusted with these arrangements.
