Dennis Lee Wegman, 82, of Churubusco, passed away at home on April 5, 2025. He had fought multiple myeloma for the past two years.
He was born in Fort Wayne on January 30, 1943, to the late Ewald and Ruth (Koeneman) Wegman. The oldest of nine children made for lots summers trips to see family in Ohio and Hoagland. He spent his formative years in Fort Wayne attending St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran and Concordia Lutheran High School, graduating in 1961.
He married Suzan Jane Case on August 31, 1963, in Fort Wayne at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. She preceded him in death on April 10, 2018, after 54 years of marriage.
Working for his dad at Wegman Tool & Die gave him the experience to obtain employment with International Harvester. He retired in 1991 after 30 years. He then worked for Edy's Ice Cream as a Merchandiser for 10 years.
He was a devoted fisherman his whole life, whether in his bass boat or on the ice. He was a member of the Summit City Bassmasters and H & O Bass Club for many years. He enjoyed helping Brent Gaff at Gaffight make handles and tie flies and spending time telling stories. Many coffee shops around Churubusco made for many stories and best friends.
Dennis is survived by his children, Lisa (Nicolas) Herron, Leslie Wegman, and Steve Wegman; his sisters, Susan Ellen Euckert, Jodi Bowers, and Jane Jacobs; his brothers, David Wegman and James Wegman; his brother-in-law, Herschel Case, Jr.; his sister-in-law, Martha Sorberger; his grandchildren, Kaleb (Darah) Herron and Emily (Jake) Clasen; his great-grandsons, Cooper and Archer Herron.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Laurie Ann Wegman; brothers, Timothy Wegman and Edward Wegman.
A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, April 11, 2025, at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel, with calling one hour prior to the service.
The family will also receive family and friends at the funeral home, on Thursday, April 10, 2025, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Burial will take place at Eel River Cemetery, Churubusco.
