Dolores E. Herdman, 94, of Huntertown, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on October 19, 2023, at Park Place Senior Living.
She was born on December 30, 1928, in Woodburn, a daughter of the late Fredrick and Lula (Obert) Hoeppner. She spent her formative years in Woodburn and Huntertown areas and graduated from Elmhurst High School in 1947.
Dolores was happily married to Floyd "Skeet" Herdman, on April 24, 1948, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Avilla. Together they built their home outside of Huntertown where they raised their four children. He preceded her in death on December 23, 2014, after 66 years of marriage.
Dolores dedicated 26 years of her life to the Northwest Allen County Schools, serving as a high school secretary until her retirement in 1989. Prior to time at Northwest Allen, she worked in the office of Harvester.
She was a charter member of Our Hope Lutheran Church and was active in Ladies Guild, where she held many offices. Dolores was also a part of LWML and Seniors Enjoying Living.
She enjoyed tending her garden, attending the sporting events of her children and grandchildren, and traveling.
She will be lovingly remembered for her selfless kindness, and as an uncomplaining woman of God who took pride in her home and family.
Dolores is survived by her son, Steve (Jeanine) Herdman; three daughters, Karen (Ralph) Noll, Dawn (James) Carl, and Julie (Dewaine) King; ten grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson.
In addition to her parents and spouse, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Fred Hoeppner, Phyllis Dunfee, Lucille Busch, Wilma Householder, Carol Bixby, Kenneth Hoeppner, Ronald Hoeppner, and Vivian Hoeppner.
A funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Our Hope Lutheran Church & School, 1826 Trinity Street, Huntertown, with calling one hour prior to the service.
The family will also receive family and friends at the church, on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Burial will take place in the Huntertown Cemetery.
