Donald F. Allen, 91, a resident of Williams Lake near Albion, passed away at 12:15 p. m. on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at the home of his daughter in Gahanna, Ohio with his family by his side. Mr. Allen was born in Fort Wayne on July 7, 1921, a son of Charles T. and Irma (Schroeder) Allen, and as a young man served with the U. S. Navy during World War II.e He retired from Chardon Laboratories in Columbus, Ohio after over 25 years. One of his passions was his garden, and he loved to plant, tend and watch it grow.e He canned vegetables, made jelly and made pickles, but his greatest pleasure was to give it all away.e His greatest passion was his family and friends, and he enjoyed life to the fullest.e A special thank-you to all of his life-saving family of friends at Williams Lake. The surviving relatives include his daughters Linda (Dan) Gease, Dianna (Richard) Martin, and Lisa (Dwight) Shrigley; a brother Robert (Jeanine) Allen; a sister-in-law Marilyn Allen; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Charles "Schooner" Allen. Graveside services with military rites will be held at 11 a. m. on Monday, October 1, 2012, at Concordia Lutheran Cemetery at Maumee Ave. and South Anthony Blvd., Fort Wayne, with Rev. Mark Woods, pastor of Burr Oak Baptist Church, officiating.e Interment will follow. The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Sunday from 3 to 7 p. m.
