Donald David Bingham, born September 10th, 1932, left us on Monday, May 29th, 2023. Don was a son to Elson E Bingham & Dorthea (Egly) Bingham. After High School graduation, Don served in the United States Army for two years during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge, he married Alma Joan (Richards) Bingham on May 18th, 1954. They just recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary.
After the Army, Don started as a Welder and earned a position as a supervisor having over 30 year's employment at the American Hoist in Fort Wayne, Indiana. After retiring from the American Hoist, Don enjoyed working as a night manager at the local Sav U Mor grocery store for many years. Don loved connecting with the public and meeting new people.
If anyone asked Don how he was doing, his response was always the same: "Mean, ornery, and cantankerous!"
Don, also, had a unique artistic talent for sketching and painting pictures with a variety of scenes from the era of his childhood and western backgrounds. Another favorite activity was working out at the Columbia City YMCA. He loved to impress the younger men with his weight-lifting abilities.
Don and Joan are long-time members of Charter Oak Church of Green Center, Indiana. He enjoyed being a greeter, handing out Service bulletins every Sunday, and was loved by all members. He loved our Lord Jesus Christ and reading his Bible. Don's Family is deeply saddened by their loss but takes comfort in knowing that Don is now Home with his Lord and Savior.
Surviving family members are his wife, Alma Joan (Richards) Bingham; four children, Katie Nannette (Tim) Firestone, Curtis Dale (Dorothy) Bingham, Penny Rena (Jeff) Braun, and Mark Allen (Kim) Bingham; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and six siblings.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Hunter; and five siblings.
Funeral services for Don will be held at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel, at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 1st, with a public visitation two hours prior. Military honors and burial will take place immediately following the funeral service. The burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery in Churubusco, Indiana.
John 14:1-7
(1) "Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. (2) My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? (3) And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. (4) You know the way to the place where I am going." (5) Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" (6) Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (7) If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him."
