Donald R Herron Sr., 79, of Churubusco, passed away at 9:15 p.m. on Friday, July 15, 2016 at his home, with family by his side..
Mr. Herron was born on August 16, 1936 in Fort Wayne, a son of Kenneth and Emily (Waters) Herron. He spent his formative years in northwest Allen county, and graduated from Churubusco High School in 1955.
On August 2, 1958 he was married at the Churubusco United Methodist Church to Gail L. Stoops.
He was employed as a meat cutter for Myer's A & P, Rogers , and retired from Egolf''s IGA.
Mr. Herron was a member of the C City Bass Anglers. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Linda & Mac Millington, Sharon Meitz, and Nancy & Jack Endsley. He was a passionate IU fan. He enjoyed processing deer for hundreds of local hunters, but was the most happy bass fishing with his brother Jim.
His wife Gail preceded him in death on July 26, 2010.
The surviving relatives include three sons, Donald (Michelle Heitkamp) Herron, Jr., Anthony E. (Lea Ann) Herron both of Churubusco, and Nicholas D. (Lisa) Herron of Waterloo; a brother, Jim Herron of Churubusco; 10 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Emily (Waters) Herron and a sister Sandra Speakman.
Memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday.
Burial will be at a later date in the Eel River Cemetery, Allen County.
