Donald P. Spear, 73, a resident of Fort Wayne, passed away at 11:12 a. m. on Friday, September 5, 2014 in the emergency room at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. Although he had been in declining health for some time, his death was unexpected. Mr. Spear was born on August 27, 1941 in Fort Wayne, a son of Peter and Crystal M. (Kamphues) Spear, and moved to Bear Lake in Noble County as a child with his parents where he spent his formative years. Employed as a semi truck driver for much of his adult life, he retired as a driver for Kenosha Trucking in the mid-1990's. On September 1, 1989 he was married in Fort Wayne to Bernadette "Boots" (Henry) Stuck. She survives. Also surviving are his children Sean Spear and Pete Ort, both of Fort Wayne and Robin Spear of Hoover, Alabama; three step-daughters Lynn Fike and Kelli Muehlmeyer, both of Fort Wayne and Shannon Sanderson of Columbia City; his brother Victor (Sally) Spear of Churubusco; a foster sister Mary Clauser of Brighton, Mich; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Josie Miller. Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2014, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Rev. Dwayne Berna, associate pastor of Merriam Christian Chapel, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p. m., or one hour prior to the service Wednesday morning. Interment will be in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne.
