Doris Maxine Sloffer, 94, of Churubusco, passed away at 8:00 p.m., on March 11, 2017 at her home. Born on April 18, 1922 in Whitley County, a daughter of Walter and Gladys (Stroh) Gordon. She spent her formative years in Churubusco and was the valedictorian of the 1940 graduating class. Doris was married on April 4, 1942 to Robert J. Sloffer. The couple moved to her present home in 1960. She worked alongside her husband at Gordon & Sloffer Inc, Churubusco. A lifelong resident of Churubusco she was a member of the Churubusco United Methodist Church and a 75-year member of the Churubusco Order of the Eastern Star 136 and past Matron. Doris is survived by a son Robert (Sandy) Sloffer, Jr. of Churubusco; three daughters, Diane (Bruce) Fletter of Grand Rapids, Mi, Karlin (Terry) Shively of Waterville, Oh, Jan Sloffer of Fort Wayne; two brothers, Jack Gordon, and Walter Gordon Jr.; a sister, Norma Mundy; eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years Robert J. Sloffer, Sr.; two sisters, Eleanor Krider and Marjorie Rider. Visiting hours will take place at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home on Thursday, March 16, 2017 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, with an Eastern Star Service at 8:00 p.m., additional calling one hour prior to the service on Friday. Services will begin at 11:00 AM, at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home on Friday, March 17, 2017, Pastor Larry Smith, officiant. Burial will follow at Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam. Memorials directed to Churubusco Order of the Eastern Star 136.
