Dorothy A. Salesman, 92, of Churubusco, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at her home.
She was born in Allen County on October 11, 1929, to the late Roscoe and Hannah M. (Felger) Hyndman. She spent her formative years in Churubusco and graduated from Churubusco High School in 1947.
Dorothy was married to Richard Salesman on June 5, 1948, at St. John's Lutheran Church-Lake Township. He preceded her in death on March 5, 2002.
She was more than a homemaker. She retired from Smith-Green Community School in 1993. During her 23 years she worked in the office. During this time, she was also the bookkeeper for the family business Salesman & Son Trucking.
Dorothy was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Lake Twp. She loved the Women's sewing group making quilts, Bible study groups, teaching Sunday school in her younger years, helping with funeral dinners and monthly Senior get togethers.
She loved to garden both vegetables and flowers, reading, studying the Word of God, sewing, and word puzzles. Family was a huge part of her life, and she prepared a Sunday night meal for anyone available to come.
Dorothy is survived by her two daughters, Diane (Randy) Zolman and Kathi Engle; her son, Greg (Teresa) Salesman; a foster son, Myron Green; a brother, Donald Hyndman; seven grandchildren, Alayne (Mark) Johnson, Amy (Matt) Weyer, Sarah (Lance) Rapp-Brieden, Jonathan (Lisa) Engle, Amanda (Jake) VanWagner, Andrew Zolman, Allyson (John) Ferrara; 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Rapp; two brothers, Roger and Dale Hyndman.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church-Lake TWP., with calling one hour prior to the funeral.
The family will also receive family and friends on Friday, June 17, 2022, at the Church, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Burial will take place in the Eel River Cemetery, Allen County.
Memorials may be directed to NALC Seminary or Parkview Hospice (Whitley County).
