Douglas C. Lockwood, 78, a resident of rural Churubusco in Allen County, passed away at 11:00 p. m. on Friday, February 8, 2013, at the Kingston Care Center in Fort Wayne.e He had been in declining health since August. Mr. Lockwood was born on November 2, 1934 in Jackson Township in Elkhart County, a son of Orval L. and Orpha P. (Routson) Lockwood.e He graduated from New Paris High School in 1952, and graduated from Indiana Business College in Fort Wayne in 1954.e He also attended IPFW. As a young man he served with the U. S. Army and was married in Tyner on June 7, 1959 to Janis L. Keller.e The couple lived in Fort Wayne following their marriage, and moved to the Churubusco-area in 1965. He was employed at General Electric in Fort Wayne for 44 years, retiring as an accounting specialist in 1998.e Following his retirement he worked for Bentz Transport Products in Fort Wayne for 12 years. A member of the Churubusco United Methodist Church, he had served there in a variety of administrative capacities.e He was also a member of the Churubusco Lions Club, where he served as treasurer for many years, and for three years served as treasurer of the Indiana Lions Eye and Tissue Transplant Bank in Indianapolis.e In his leisure time he enjoyed cutting wood and other various outdoor activities, and also enjoyed wintering in Cape Coral, Florida. The surviving relatives include his wife Janis, to whom he was married for over 53 years; a daughter Charla (Keith) Bentz of Zionsville; a son Stephen D. (Kimberly) Lockwood of New Albany; a brother Paul D. (Brenda) Lockwood of Syracuse; a sister Mary K. (Leonard) Ropp of Greer, SC; and a grandson Noah Andrew Lockwood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers Phillip Lockwood and Robert Lockwood. Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. on Thursday, February 14, 2013, at the Churubusco United Methodist Church with Pastor Dennis A. Shock, officiating. The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Wednesday from 2 to 8 p. m., or at the church one hour prior to the service Thursday morning.e A Lions Club memorial service will be held at 7:30 p. m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment with military graveside rites will be in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne. For those who wish, memorials may be directed to Churubusco Untied Methodist Church, 750 N.
