Edward Myers

Edward E. Myers, 85, a resident of Huntertown and widely acquainted Huntertown businessman and community leader, passed away at 5:55 a.m. on Friday, September 30, 2016, at the family residence. He had been in declining health for some time and had become more seriously ill since Tuesday. Mr. Myers was born in Huntertown on January 2, 1931, the son of Earl G. and Bessie Marie (Wells) Myers. He graduated from Huntertown High School in 1949 and spent his entire life in that community. As a young man he served with the U.S. Navy Reserves, and had owned and operated Myers Service Station in Huntertown since 1952. In addition to his business concerns, his life was marked by memberships and active leadership in several organizations. He was a member of the Huntertown United Methodist Church, and was 50 years a member of Huntertown Lodge 689 F&AM. The founder of both the Huntertown Business Association and the Huntertown Pioneer Club, he had served on the Huntertown Volunteer Fire Department, and also served on the Huntertown Town Board for 14 years. In his leisure time he enjoyed all types of fishing and hunting, had a love for antique vehicles, and thoroughly enjoyed the annual hog roast he hosted for 20 years at his cottage on Snow Lake. On November 17, 1956 he was married in Huntertown to June Englehart. She survives. Other surviving relatives include his four children Laurie (Rick) Warner, Rick (Dawn) Myers, Tami (John) Hartnup, and Rodney (Mimi) Myers, all of Huntertown; his sister Betty Lavacheck of Huntertown; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. His parents preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, October 5, 2016, in Huntertown United Methodist Church, 16021 Lima Road, with Pastors Gabrielle Ginder and Larry Smith, officiating. The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m., or at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Huntertown Lodge 689 F&AM will conduct memorial services at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment with military graveside rites will be in the Huntertown Cemetery.
