Ellen Dazey

Ellen Mae Dazey 84, of Columbia City, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at her home. She was born June 10, 1935, in Whitley County to the late John and Evelyn (Eames) Clingerman. Ellen spent her formative years in Churubusco, graduating from Churubusco High School in 1953. She was a member of the Wolf Lake VFW Auxiliary, the Albion American Legion and the Albion Eagles Lodge Auxiliary. On June 30, 1993, she married James C. "J.C." Dazey. She worked as a machine operator at Precision Plastics in Albion for 13 years. She was also employed in restaurants and motel housekeeping. Surviving relatives include one daughter, Sue Ann (Larry) Montgomery of Butler; two sons, Larry (Marie) Ely of New Haven and Rickey Lee Ely of Avilla; one sister, Phillis Smith of Columbia City; four step-sons, Jim, Chuck, Ron, and Terry Dazey; two step-daughters, Sister Cheryl Dazey and Sandy Lemish; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; many step-grandchildren and many great-step-grandchildren. Ellen is preceded in death by her two husbands, Bruce Stiver and J. C. Dazey; two brothers, Ronald and Floyd Clingerman; step-daughter, Betty Jo Thiel; her companion, Charles Jones. Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at Sheets and Childs Funeral Home, officiating Pastor Rick VanHorn. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 12 p.m., to 2 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in Christian Chapel Cemetery in Merriam. Memorials may be directed to Wolf Lake VFW.
