Evelyn "Evy" Hendrickson, 88, a resident of Fort Wayne and widow of J. William Hendrickson, passed away at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 22, 2016 at Parkview Hospital Randallia in Fort Wayne. She had been taken there on Saturday from Heritage Park Nursing Home, and had been a nursing home patient since 2009.
Mrs. Hendrickson was born on June 25, 1927 in Thorncrrek Township in Whitley County, a daughter of John E. and Edith L. (Minor) Kramer. She graduated from Coesse High School in 1945 and was a graduate of Findley College.
On December 15, 1946 she was married to J. William Hendrickson. The couple spent the early years of their marriage in Whitley County before moving to Fort Wayne in 1952.
She later completed her nurses training through Fort Wayne Community Schools and Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing, and worked as a nurse for 35 years. She had worked in hospitals and doctor's offices in Fort Wayne, and retired as a licensed practical nurse at Byron Health Center in 1987 after ten years.
Mr. Hendrickson preceded her in death on July 14, 2012.
The surviving relatives include her son Rodger L. (Pat) Hendrickson of Auburn; and three grandsons Dennis B. Hendrickson, Philip M. Hendrickson, and Randy S.Hendrickson.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son Dennis Hendrickson in 1966; and by a sister Bessie E. Linn; and a brother Wilmer E. Kramer.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Rev. Rick Van Horn, pastor of Christ Community Church, officiating.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the hour of the service.
Interment will be in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne.
