Evelyn Annette Short, 84, of Columbia City and formerly of Churubusco, passed away at 7:05 p.m. on July 3, 2011, at Millers Merry Manor in Columbia City, after a long illness. A daughter of Hobart Murphy and Zella (Newberry) Murphy, she was born on June 3, 1927 in Clinchco, Virgina, ande spent her formative years in West Virginia. On February 26, 1949 she married William T. Short in Clintwood, Virginia. They settled in this community on September 7, 1962. She worked for Dana Corporation in Churubusco fore three years. In 1983 she went to work for Sroufe MFC., in Ligonier retiring in 1988. The surviving relatives include two daughters Markie (John) Eichman of New Haven and Bonnie (Rick) DeBolt of Wawaka; seven grandchildren Tracy (Jerry) Bair, Sandy (Jared) Dunfee, Darrin (Angie) Strayer, Travis Teague, Colleen Bigelow, Elizabeth (Aaron) Lindsey, and Susan DeBolt; five great ea" grandchildren and one great ea" great- grandchild Mrs. Short was preceded by her husband; a son Wendell Todd Short; two brothers Hobart Murphy, Jr. and James Murphy; ande a sister Barbara Roberts. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.e m. on Thursday, July 7, 2011, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Rev. David Boesenberg, pastor of Cromwell United Methodist Church, officiating. The family will receive friends at the mortuary on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p. m., or one hour prior to the service Thursday morning.
