Fae Elizabeth Carter, 92, a resident of Columbia City and widow of Ralph B. Carter, Sr., passed away at 12:30 a. m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Miller's Merry Manor in Columbia City.e She had been a patient there for the past two years. Mrs. Carter was born in Fort Wayne on April 27, 1920, a daughter of Ruben Clyde and Veronica Elizabeth (Ness) Butler, Sr., and spent her formative years in the Arcola-area.e On March 11, 1937 she was married in Warsaw to Ralph B. Carter, Sr.e She had lived at Blue Lake for a period and had also resided in Gainsville, Florida. In 1984 she moved to the family farm in Lake Township with her brother, and lived there until moving to Columbia City in 2001.e She had assisted her husband in farming for many years, and later worked as a nurses aid at Whitley County Hospital.e She earned her LPN while living in Gainsville, worked at a hospital there, and later did private duty nursing. She had been a member of the Cornerstone Wesleyan Church in Merriam for over 20 years, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, and also a teacher's aid at Cornerstone Christian School.e A member of the Red Hat Society, she also enjoyed wonderful times at the senior center, playing Bingo, and reading. Mr. Carter preceded her in death on December 30, 1976. The surviving relatives include her children Larry P. Carter of Roanoke, Stella Egolf of Huntington, and Ralph B. (Marcia) Carter of Columbia City; two sons-in-law Mahlon Peters of Churubusco and David Perry of Alabama; a daughter-in-law Barbara Carter of Roanoke; 25 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, and 22 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three children James L. Carter, Pat Peters, and Catherine Hilton Perry; three brothers Jesse Earl Butler, John Fredrick Butler, and Ruben C. Butler, Jr;e two sisters Freada Sutorius and Edna Mae Sherman; and by four grandchildren Tammy Egolf, Dennis Peters, Darren Peters, and Ronnie Carter. Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. on Friday, March 29, 2013, at the Cornerstone Wesleyan Church in Merriam with Pastor George Cecil, officiating. The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Thursday from 2-4 and from 6-8 p. m., or at the church one hour prior to the service Friday morning. Interment will be at 2 p. m. on Friday in the South Whitley Cemetery.
