Fern Baxter

August 6, 1938 — March 26, 2016

Fern M. Baxter, 77, a resident of Churubusco, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at her home. Fern was born in Ligonier on August 6, 1938, a daughter of Frank and Hazel (Owen) Wilson. She spent her formative years in Albion, and had lived all of her adult life in Churubusco. Employed at Dana Corporation in Churubusco for 30 years, she retired from the shipping department in 2000. Following her retirement she will long be remembered for working at Suds Laundry in Churubusco. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliaries of the Gilbert Davis American Legion Post 157 in Churubusco, Churubusco Veteran's of Foreign Wars Turtle Post 3846, and Albion Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2455. In her leisure time she enjoyed sewing and knitting, but her true love was her family--sharing in family meals and especially supporting her grandchildren's athletic and school events. The surviving relatives include three children Jack (Robin) Gadomski of Salem, Oregon, Treasa (Charles) Bridegan of Albion, and Sherrie (David) Brady of Churubusco; her twin brother Vern Lee Wilson of Albion; six grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Guy, Walter, Frank, Kenneth, and Harold Wilson; two sisters Viola Imhoff and Fay Caupp; a grandson Troy Bridegan; and by a great-grandson Dalton Brady. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 1, 2016, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Rev. Larry Schmoekel, pastor of Collins United Methodist Church, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.
