Florence Johnson

Florence L. "Flo" Johnson, 84, a resident of Churubusco and widow of Carlton F. Johnson, passed away at 12:57 a. m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at her home following a brief illness. Mrs. Johnson was born on October 5, 1929 in Fort Wayne, a daughter of Carl and Evelyn (McClain) Kramer, and spent her formative years there. On September 1, 1951 she was married in Chicago to Carlton F. Johnson, and moved to Eel River Township in Allen County following her marriage, where she raised her family. She had resided in Churubusco since 1998. A former cook at Byron Health Center in Fort Wayne for 13 years, she had also worked as a filing clerk at Johnson Medical Center in Churubusco. She was a member of the Churubusco United Methodist Church, where she took an active part in the church's food ministry. In her leisure time she enjoyed fishing, and playing cards and Bingo. Most especially she loved and cherished time with her family and her cats "the boys" Baby and Elvis. Mr. Johnson preceded her in death on December 17, 1984. The surviving relatives include her children Tyke (Carl) (Carolyn) Johnson of Fort Wayne, Dr. David A. (Jackie) Johnson of Churubusco, Cathy (Dennis) Barnes of Churubusco, Sue (Joseph) Williams of Huntington, and Lori (Scott) Henning of Churubusco. There are 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother Robert Broeking; her sister Betty Streeter; and a granddaughter Rachel Wood. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. on Sunday, October 27, 2013, in the Churubusco United Methodist Church with Pastor Corinne Boruff-Stucker, officiating. The family will receive friends at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Saturday from 2 to 7 p. m., or at the church one hour prior to the service Sunday afternoon. Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery, south of Churubusco. For those who wish, memorials may be directed to Churubusco Untied Methodist Church, 750 N.
