Gailen Hart

Gailen Ray Hart, 91, of Churubusco, passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at Lutheran Life Villages in Kendallville. He was born in Ray, Indiana, on September 30, 1930, to the late Ray and Addie (Reade) Hart. He spent his formative years in Kendallville. After school, he served in the United States Army from November 14, 1947, to April 2, 1952. Gailen was married in Wolcottville, on November 28, 1953, to Adabelle France. She preceded him in death on March 18, 2020. After 30 years of service, he retired from Dana Weatherhead, in Columbia City, in 1995. Previously to that, he had worked at J.I. Case and Magnavox. Gailen was a past member of the U.A.W. and served in many board capacities, including the American Legion Post and the Moose. He attended Good News Baptist Church. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and traveling the country camping with his wife. Gailen is survived by a son, Gregory (Norma) Hart; three daughters, Denise (Mike) Ritchison, Addie (Patrick) Stoner, and Carol Thompson; 12 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded by four brothers, Ralph, Cy, Douglas, and Jack; three sisters, Ilene, Dixie, and Connie. Services will take place at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel, on Sunday, September 25, 2022, at 3:00 p.m., with calling one hour prior. Burial with Military Rites will take place at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Cystic Fibrosis or Cancer Services of N.E. Indiana.
