Gale Schaefer, 93, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025, at his home.
He was born on June 5, 1932, in Green Township in Noble County, to the late Lloyd and Hazel (Snell) Schaefer. He spent his formative years in Avilla and graduated from Avilla High School.
Gale was a beloved father, a dedicated Master Mason, and a friend to many. He was married on April 7, 1957, to Beverly Runyan. She preceded him in death on June 7, 2025. Gale was a hardworking man who retired from Harvester in Fort Wayne in 1980. His commitment to his work was a testament to his character and the fortitude with which he lived his life.
Gale was an avid collector of novelty items, a hobby he indulged in during his frequent trips to garage sales. He also enjoyed tending his extensive gardens, spending time outdoors, and appreciating the beauty in nature. Above all, what mattered most to Gale was his family.
Gale is survived by his five children, Lynn (Tammy Dwyer) Schaefer, Karen Hood, Dean (Patricia) Schaefer, Ellen (Lance) Danner, and John Schaefer; eight grandchildren, Jamie Hood, Julie Sparkman, Justin Hood, Sarah Woosley, Kerilyn Schaefer, Andrew Schaefer, Benjamin Danner, and Tyler Danner; nine great-grandchildren, Dominick, Gabriel, Blayne, Elijah, Hadyne, Katelyn, Jacob, Talan, and LaTaya; a great-great-grandson, Benjimen.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Donna Myers and Ethel Anderson; an infant son; and a great-granddaughter, LaElah.
Gale's life will be honored with military honors on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Eel River Cemetery, Churubusco.
