Garold "Gary" Wright

Garold "Gary" F. Wright, 90, of Churubusco, passed away on July 15, 2018, at Park Place Senior Living in Fort Wayne. Gary was born in South Bend on February 24, 1928. He was the son of the late Harold and Lillian (Metz) Wright. Gary spent his formative years in Lakeville and graduated from Lakeville High School in 1947. He then attended the Graduate School of Banking University of Wisconsin. He served in the United States Army, Sergeant Finance Division, during the Korean Conflict. On November 9, 1952, Gary married Carolyn Estep in South Bend. The family moved to Churubusco in 1963. She preceded him in death on February 23, 2008 after 55 years of marriage. Gary worked at St. Joe Bank and Trust of South Bend for 16 years, Churubusco State Bank for 16 years; retiring in 1990 after ten years at Citizen National Bank in Churubusco. He has been a member of Churubusco United Methodist Church for 55 years, serving on various boards and committees. Gary was also very active in the Churubusco community where he served over the years as president of Rotary, Lions Club, School Board, Chamber of Commerce and the Turtle Days, as well as chairman of the Whitley County Hospital Board. Gary enjoyed golf, fishing, skiing, woodworking, traveling and spending his winters in Arizona. He liked being on the go and being with his family. In the mornings you could find Gary at the Magic Wand having coffee with his buddies. He is survived by his children, Bruce (Janice) Wright and Lori (Kurt) Uhen both of Fort Wayne; two grandchildren John (Laura) Wright of Birmingham, AL and Sarah Wright of Hattiesburg, MS. Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday July 19, 2018, at Churubusco United Methodist Church, 750 N. Main Street, Churubusco, IN 46723. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, from 3-8 p.m., at the funeral home and one hour prior, at the church. Memorials to Churubusco United Methodist Church and Honor Flight of Northeast Indiana. Officiating will be Rev. Doug Lucker and Rev. Elmer Vogelsang. Burial will be in Eel River Cemetery following the service.
