Gene A Bohnstedt, 87, of Churubusco, passed away at 7:42 a.m. on Monday, June 25, 2018, at his home. Born in Richland Township, Whitley County on June 30, 1930, he was a son of the late Clinton and Lucile (Brown) Bohnstedt. He spent his formative years in Whitley County and graduated from Larwill High School in 1948. Gene served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict as a State Side MP. He was married to Martha Myers on June 30, 1952. The couple have lived at their present home since 1961. Gene worked for 12 years at County Line Cheese, before owning Triple B Sales in Churubusco from 1971 to 1983. Then he worked for Lee's Outdoor Power Equipment in New Haven and retired from Overland Power in Columbia City in 1992. In his retirement he worked at Egolf's IGA. He was a member of the Churubusco United Methodist Church. He loved garage sales and flea markets. He enjoyed traveling to see family and was a " Mr. Fix it". Later in life he really enjoyed family genealogy. Gene is survived by his wife of 65 years, Martha Bohnstedt; two sons, Steve(Tina) Bohnstedt and Brian (Julie) Bohnstedt both of Fort Wayne; two daughters, LeaAndrea McConnell of Fort Wayne and Lynette Bohnstedt of Churubusco; a daughter-in-law, Karen Bohnstedt of Fort Wayne; a brother, Richard Bohnstedt of Milford; three sisters, Bonnie (Tom) Michael of Philadelphia, PA, Colleen Ward of Columbia City and Carol (Dale) Thomas of West Branch, IA; 20 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Gloria Mae Bohnstedt; a son, Kenneth Bohnstedt and a sister, Betty Goodrich. Calling will take place at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home on Thursday, June 28, 2018, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Calling also one hour prior to the service. Services will begin at 11:00 AM, at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home on Friday, June 29, 2018. Burial will follow at Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.
