Gene Geiger

Gene L. Geiger, 86, of Columbia City, formerly of Churubusco, passed away on March 18, 2018, in Fort Wayne. Born on March 12, 1932, in Churubusco, to Emanuel "Snick" and Mabel (Cotton) Geiger. He graduated from Churubusco in 1950. Gene was married on April 11, 1953, to Evelyn G. Brendel. She preceded him in death on December 14, 2005. He retired from Dana in 1980 after 30 years of service. Throughout his life he engaged in farming and construction. Gene is survived by his fiance, Pauline Bruch of Columbia City; seven children, Charlene (William) Rogers of Frankfort, Carolyn (Daryl) Erwin of Churubusco, Terry (Zidania "Dana") Geiger of Avilla, Cynthia Stangland of Columbia City, David (Deborah) Geiger of Churubusco, Connie (Gary) Gordon of Churubusco and Darrin (Kelly) Geiger of Churubusco; 24 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and 6 step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bonnie Nicodemus of Churubusco and Darlene (Dale) Delanoy of Columbia City; three brothers, Paul Lee (Marlene) Geiger of Churubusco, Junior (Jennifer) Geiger of Huntington and C. DeLynn (Lori) Geiger of Warsaw; a sister-in-law, Nancy Geiger of Churubusco. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his son, Steven Geiger and a brother, Melvin Geiger. Visiting hours will take place at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Services will begin at 10:00 a.m., at Churubusco United Methodist Church on Thursday, March 22, 2018. Burial will follow at Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam. In lieu of flowers please make memorials to Give the Kids the World Village in Florida or Columbia City United Methodist Church Building Fund.
