Gene E. Herron, Jr., 63, of Fort Wayne, passed away at 1:47 a.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at VA Hospital in Marion Mr. Herron was born on February 18, 1952 in Columbia City, a son of Gene E. Herron and Shirley (Shively) Herron. He spent his formative years in Churubusco and graduated from Churubusco High School in 1970. After high school he joined and served in the United States Navy. While serving in the Navy he spent three years on the U.S.S. Eisenhower as Chief of Communications. After his Military service he lived in Georgia then to Fort Wayne where he had lived for the last 30 years. The surviving relatives include sister, Pepper (Byron) Wells of Buffalo Grove, IL; two brothers, Jeffrey (Tammy) Herron of Albion and brother, Todd (Paula) Herron of Churubusco; four nephews, Brandon, Joshua, Jordan, and Kyle; three grandnephews, Knox, Liam, and Jase. He was preceded in death by his parents Gene E.Herron and Shirley (Shively) Herron and a sister Candy A. Maugherman Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, with Pastor Rick Van Horn, officiating. The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday.
