Gene Smith

Gene W. Smith, 72, of La Otto, passed away at 3:00 a.m. on June 1, 2017 at his home. Born on January 14, 1945 in Wauwatosa, Wi. He was the son of B. Wade and Flora (Pierceton) Smith. He spent his formative years in Frankfurt Germany graduating from the American Military base in Frankfurt. Gene was married in Battle Creek, Mi on October 9, 1964 to Sharon Dick. The couple first lived in Fort Wayne before settling in La Otto. He retired from Tokheim after 33 years. He then Co-Founded S & S and sons landscaping retiring January 2017. Gene is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sharon Smith of La Otto; his daughter, Susan (Jim) Croy of Roanoke; his sister, Linda Smith of Blaine, Minn; a granddaughter, Emily Croy of Fort Wayne; a grandson, Michael (Jackie) Croy of Noblesville; and two great granddaughters. He is preceded in death by his parents and his son Kurt Allen Smith. Visiting hours will take place at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home on Sunday, June 4, 2017 from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM. Services will begin at 5:00 PM. Burial with a graveside comitial at Ege Catholic Cemetery will be on Monday, June 5, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Parkview Home, Health, and Hospice.
