Genevieve Anne (Warner) Lehman, 90, a former resident of Topeka and widow of Dr. Kenneth M. Lehman,e died at 7:05 a. m. on Sunday, August 5, 2012, at her home in Indianapolis. A long-time resident of Topeka, she was born to DeMain and Hazel (Keim) Warner in Goshen on October 18, 1921, and graduated from Goshen High School in 1938.e "Gen" graduated from Goshen College in 1942 with a B. A. and taught Latin for several years at Wakarusa, Topeka, and Elkhart Memorial High Schools.e She married Kenneth M. Lehman, M. D., on April 25, 1943, in Goshen, and also worked in his medical office in Topeka. A member of the Topeka United Methodist Church, she was the founder of the Candle Choir, and served as its church organist, a Sunday School teacher, and was a maker of many banners for the liturgical year.e In recent years, she attended Maple Hill United Methodist Church in Wanamaker. In 1980 she became the first female member of the LaGrange County Council.e She and "Doc" donated the land for Maplewood Nature Center in LaGrange County, and were active members of the Audubon Society.e Gen was a life member of the Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and Worship Arts, and a member of the Topeka Book Club until it disbanded.e She wrote articles that were published in eaA"Quiltersea magazine and in the Fellowship eaA"Worship Artsea magazine.e She was an expert quilter, avid reader, and adventurous traveler. Dr. Lehman preceded her in death on June 24, 2002. In addition to her parents and husband, Gen was preceded in death by her step-mother, Vida Reynolds Warner; brothers, Gail E. Warner and Indiana State Representative Philip T. Warner; and beloved neighbor, Besse Oesch. She is survived by four daughterse Anne (Dan) Lind of Goshen; Rebecca Russell of Indianapolis, Katharine (Charlie) Walker of West Lafayette, Lucinda Lehman of Indianapolis; housemates Allen McCormack and Donald Stikeleather; five grandchildren Dirk (Tracy) Lind, Anjali (Domingos Robinson) Lind, Nathaniel Russell, Becky (Ron Adams) Troyer, and Rachel Troyer; two step-grandchildren Sarah (Craig) McClory ande Charlie (Hitomi Matarese) Walker; six great-grandchildren Seth, Jasmine, and Maya Lind, Rosalie Adams, ande Memoria and Azia Matters; and two step-great-grandchildrene Alexander and Ella McClory; three nieces and a nephew. Services will be held at 2 p. m. on Wednesday, August 15, 2012, in the Topeka United Methodist Church with Revs. Tamra Gerber and James Gentry, officiating. The family will receive friends at the church after 11 a. m. on Wednesday until the time of the service. Interment of her cremains will be in the Eden Cemetery, Topeka.
