Gerald Fleetwood

Gerald C. Fleetwood, 94, of Churubusco, passed away at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday, January 28, 2018 The Hearth at Sycamore Village in Fort Wayne. He was born to the late Rev. Clarence and Ethel (Haines) Fleetwood on February 21, 1923 in Berne. His teen years were spent in Churubusco. Gerald graduated from Churubusco High School in 1939. After high school Mr. Fleetwood served his county in the United States Army Air Force. During World War II he was a B-17 Tech Sargent Engineer and a top Turret Gunner. Gerald married Catherine Raypole on October 24, 1944. He retired from Grabill Cabinet Co. in 1986. McCoy Lumber also employed Gerald for 26 years. Mr. Fleetwood attended Good News Baptist Church. In his spare time he loved woodworking. Gerald is survived by his daughter, Marcy Fleetwood of Fort Wayne; his son, Steven (Cheryl) Fleetwood of Churubusco; a brother, Dale (Vera) Fleetwood of Indianapolis; six grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Catherine Fleetwood; a brother, Chester Fleetwood; two sisters, Thelma Pence and Ilean Fleetwood. Visiting hours will take place at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home on Friday, February 2, 2018 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Also, one hour prior to the service. Services will begin at 11:00 AM, at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home on Saturday, February 3, 2018. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, Allen County. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Churubusco American Legion Post 157 in Churubusco.
