Glen Nicodemus

Glen L. Nicodemus, 83, a resident of rural Churubusco, passed away at 1:48 p. m. on Thursday, June 18, 2015, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne following a brief illness. Mr. Nicodemus was born in Jefferson Township near Columbia City on March 21, 1932, a son of Jesse and Velma (Crawford) Nicodemus. On June 1, 1952 he was married in Churubusco to Bonnie Geiger, and lived all of his adult life in Smith Township. In his early years he had been employed at Dana Weatherhead Division and Briggs Fertilizer Plant, both of Columbia City, and also at the former Kiess Welding Shop in Churubusco. He was engaged in farming for much of his life, was a former employee of Dana Corporation in Fort Wayne for 13 years, and for 54 years was widely acquainted as a livestock hauler, retiring in 2014. In his leisure time he enjoyed both tractor and pony pulling contests, and was a member of the Draft Horse Association. The surviving relatives include his wife Bonnie, to whom he was married for over 63 years; two children Carol Ann (Randy) Long and John Glen (Kristan) Nicodemus, both of Churubusco; three sisters Dolores Zeigler and Marilyn Gross, both of Churubusco, and Sharon Diffendarfer of Fort Wayne; two brothers Ronald (Marilyn) Nicodemus of Churubusco and Larry (Alice) Nicodemus of South Whitley; eight grandchildren Rosa (William) Aspy, Crystal Vasquez, Paige Long, Sierra Long, Justin (Chelsey) Nicodemus, Jordan Nicodemus, Jason Nicodemus, and Kassidee Nicodemus; two step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers Keith, Kenneth, Gail, and Jay Nicodemus; and by a sister Elaine Guiff. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a. m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at the Churubusco United Methodist Church with Pastors Corinne Boruff-Stucker and Dennis Beckner, officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 4 to 8 p. m., or one hour prior to the service Tuesday morning. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Covington Memorial Gardens in Fort Wayne. The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to Whitley County 4-H, Inc.
