Goldie "Kate" Gebhart

Goldie "Kate" C. Gebhart, 74, of Albion, passed away at 2:36 p.m., on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at her home. She was born in Fort Wayne on December 29, 1943. She was the daughter of the late, Charles and Mary (Craig) Durnell. She spent her formative years in Fort Wayne and attended South Side High School. Kate was married to Edward Gebhart on November 26, 1960, in Fort Wayne. The couple have lived in their current home for more than 40 years. She retired from Noble Wire in 2006, after 19 years of service. Kate was a long-time member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ege and was a member of the Churubusco American Legion Post #157 Auxiliary. She was a "big-time homemaker" that enjoyed cooking, baking, chocolate, peanuts and Bob Seger. She loved her time in Texas during the winters. Her grandchildren will always remember her having a mint for them. Kate is survived by her husband of 57 years, Edward Gebhart of Albion; four daughters, Laura (Bobby) Weeks, Debra (Todd) Gross, Kathleen (Steve) Lawson and Helen Gebhart; her son, George (Erica) Gebhart; a brother, Mike Durnell; 14 grandchildren, Jacob Sakells, Levi Gross, Whitley (Steven) Roehrman, Sarah, Emma, Lilly and Steven Lawson, Jr., Bryce, Dalton, Chance and Chase Millhouse, Morgan, Sophia and Melanie Gebhart; two great grandchildren, Goldie and Guy Roehrman. She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Luke and Harold Durnell; two sisters, Betty Hyde and Becky White; a granddaughter, Jessica Lawson. Calling will take place at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 25, 2018, from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Holy Rosary will be recited at 8:00 p.m. Calling also one hour prior to the Mass at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Thursday, July 26, 2018. Burial will follow at Ege Catholic Cemetery.
