Grace Siebern

Grace. G. Siebern, 97, a resident of rural Churubusco and widow of Lawrence F. Siebern, passed away unexpectedly early Sunday morning, October 19, 2014 at Covington Commons in Fort Wayne. Grace was born in Roanoke on August 18, 1917, a daughter of Samuel B. and Laura E. (Mutton) Platt. She spent her formative years in Huntington County and graduated from Lafayette Central High School in 1935. On November 12, 1939 she was married in Huntington to Lawrence F. Siebern. The couple spent the early years of their marriage in Huntington County before moving to Churubusco in 1946. Formerly employed at J. I. Case in Churubusco, she retired from the offices of Kingsford Packing Company in Fort Wayne in 1980. She was a member of the Churubusco United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women's Grace Circle. In her leisure time she enjoyed sewing, and was active in the church's food ministry and assisting with funeral dinners. She enjoyed reading, and will long be remembered by her family for her cooking and baking. Lawrence preceded her in death on September 12, 1990. The surviving relatives include her daughters Judy (Kenneth) Garrison of Churubusco and Carolyn (Stanley) Oke of Batavia, Ill; two sisters Lorene (Bill) Gregory of Butler and Lucille Stapleton of Fort Wayne; her grandchildren Michael (Sarah) Garrison, Melissa (Lee) Norris, Steve (Nicole) Oke, Jeffrey (Keri) Oke, and Heather (Aaron) Freeman; and 14 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister Jane Hine; and by four brothers Gerald, Ralph, Russell, and Sam Platt. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a. m. on Friday, October 25, 2014, at the Churubusco United Methodist Church with Pastor Corinne Boruff-Stucker, officiating. The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Thursday from 3 to 7 p. m., or at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Eel River Cemetery, south of Churubusco. For those who wish, memorials may be directed to Churubusco United Methodist Church, 750 N.
