Harold E. Eyer, 89, a long-time resident of Churubusco, died at 9:45 a. m. on Thursday, November 5, 2009, at The Oaks in Columbia City following a lengthy illness.e He had been a patient at the nursing home since 2004. Mr. Eyer was born near Leesburg on March 9, 1920, a son of John and Goldie [Smith] Eyer.e As a young boy, he moved to a farm in Noble Township in Noble County with his parents, and graduated from Wolf Lake High School in 1938.e Upon completing his education he worked on the family farm for a period until serving with the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II. On June 10, 1944 he was married to Dora Mae Green, and lived in Fort Wayne for a short period until moving to Churubusco in 1946.e She preceded him in death on December 24, 1952.e On March 20, 1954 he was married to Freida Joan Minniear, and lived all of his married life in Churubusco.e She died on July 11, 2004. Employed as a route salesman for the Bordon Dairy in Fort Wayne, he worked there for 32 years until the plant closed in 1980.e For the next ten years he was employed as a truck driver for Merkler Machine in Fort Wayne, retiring from there in 1990. He was a member of the Churubusco United Methodist Church, its United Methodist Men, and in his leisure time enjoyed traveling, camping, and especially enjoyed fishing. The surviving relatives include his daughter Deborah Ann Eyer of San Luis Obispo, Calif; and a son Harold Eyer, Jr. of Albion. In addition to his parents and two spouses, he was preceded in death by a sister Betty Runels; a half-brother Don Eyer; a step-brother Robert Smith, and a step-sister Helen Clodfelter. Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. on Monday, Novembere 9, 2009, at the Churubusco United Methodist Church with Rev. Corinne K. Boruff, officiating. The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Sunday from 4 to 7 p. m., or at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam. For those who wish, memorials may be directed to the Churubusco United Methodist Church, 750 N.
