Harold Kenneth May, Sr., 94, of Bennington, Oklahoma, and formally of rural Churubusco, passed away at 2:33 p. m. on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas. Mr. May was born on December 3, 1918 in Greenville, South Carolina, a son of Elzie R.and Nettie (Hames) May. He spent his formative years in Greenville, SC., and graduated from Clemson University's high school program. After graduation he served during World War II in the United States Army. He was married to Maxine Winningham and moved to Whitley County from Greenville, South Carolina in 1953. He was employed at May Brothers Construction, and retired in 1983 after 30 years. Mr. May was a life member of the American Legion and the VFW. His spouse preceded him in death on February 26, 1991. The surviving relatives include two daughters Sandra Lee (Dickie) Cates of Bennington, OK and Evelyn Belcher of Fort Wayne; a son William (Cheryl) May of Columbia City; two sisters Dorothy Barnett and Ellalee Halcombe, both of Greenville, SC; and two brothers James (Loraine) May and John May, both of Greenville, SC. He was preceded in death by a son Harold Kenneth May, Jr.; and by two brothers Grover May and Elzie May, Jr. Graveside services will be held at Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam, Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Rick Van Horn, officiating.
