Harry Thompson

Harry D. Thompson, 91, a resident of Fort Wayne and native of Churubusco, journeyed to Heaven to meet his Lord and Savior on Monday, July 2, 2012 at Woodview Health Care in Fort Wayne with his daughters by his side. Harry was born August 11, 1920 in Churubusco to Carl and Dora (Hanlon).e In 1927 the family moved to Fort Wayne, where his father went in to the well drilling business.e Harry graduated from Northside High School and served in the Army during World War II in New Guinea, Philippines from 1943 to 1945, acquiring an honorable discharge. Upon returning home, he eventually went in to the well business with his father and brother Philip in 1951 under the name Thompson & Sons Well Drilling.e In 1968 the company consolidated with another company and became Thompson & Zuber Well Drilling.e After 40 years in business, they decided to dissolve the company in 1984 and began enjoying retirement. Mr. Thompson was a talented gentleman, and there was nothing he could not build, make or tweak to make it work.e Some of his talents included wood working and restoring and making clocks. He was an avid fisherman and made many trips to Colorado to hunt. Surviving are his daughters Carol (Wally) Myers of Fort Wayne, and Linda Zartman of New Haven; a son Michael (Debbie) Thompson of Jacksonville, Fla; a brother Phillip (Celo) Thompson of Fort Wayne; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers Robert Thompson and Lee Thompson. Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. on Saturday, July 7, 2012, at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Rev. George Cecil, pastor of Cornerstone Wesleyan Church, officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p. m. Friday at the funeral home. Final resting place will be in Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam, with military graveside rites.
