Harry J. Thompson, 80, a lifelong resident of Allen County, left to be with his Lord at 7:00 p. m. on Monday, November 26, 2012, at the Provena Sacred Heart Home in Avilla. He had been a patient there since October. Mr. Thompson was born in Muncie on June 10, 1932, a son of Harry F. and Opal C. (Blount) Thompson, and moved to Allen County with his family in 1941. He graduated from Arcola High School in 1950, and later served as a tool and die journeyman. On April 26, 1952 he was married in Lake Township to Adeline Joan Fritz. He was engaged in farming in Washington Township for 20 years, and retired as a tool and die maker in 1994 from E & R Benteler Tool in Fort Wayne after 28 years. He was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne. The surviving relatives include his wife Adeline, to whom he was married for over 60 years; a son Daniel A. (Kimberly) Thompson of Avilla; his granddaughter Malorie (Carl Sloan) Thompson of Aville; a great-granddaughter Wrayla Sloan; and his siblings Charles (Luann) Thompson of Martinsville, Margaret (Harold) Andrew of Greenville, Tenn., and Tom (Beverly) Thompson of Churubusco. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. on Thursday, November 29, 2012, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Rev. Rodney Schmeltz, pastor of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday after 12 noon until the time of the service. Interment will be in the Eel River Cemetery, Allen County.
